I find the more I learn in class, the easier it is to be a nonbeliever. Many believers look around and go "Wow, how could this all happen? It must be by God!". I look around and say "Ok, that's how that happened, that's how that happened, ect.". The real mystery is how the laws of physics came to be. If God had any hand in the universe, the creation of physics would be where his hand is seen best.

I have an interresting story to share with all of you....
Today somebody came to me to talk about "the Bible and it's importance and that many people don't have the life they want to today" They asked if I believe in God, of course I answered yes - but I dont believe those that claim to be his messengers on earth. Then that person talked about how God "interferes" - come to think of it she might have thought about miracles, but then I asked "does that mean you don't believe in free will?" The answer was yes she believes in free will. Then I brought up the church's history - no matter what good they may do now - AND (this ones the best) the mistranslations in the bible..... you won't believe this: the woman had the nerves to tell me that there was NO mistranslations in the Bible! O___O Then I said "Yours (and somewhat also my) religion forbits you to lie" I brought up that the bible was a translation of a translation and that mistranslations were BOUND to happen (Conan fans who read the files translated Japanese>Chinese>English *know* what I am talking about, I think). She still stood there and told me that she believes there has been no mistranslations! because they "found the oldest possible source". Yet, I reply, there are still bits that are up for debate and I brought up Nicea and how the Bible came to be.... I'm not sure if that's exactly how it went but in the end she told me "you have your convictions and I have mine", now isn't that an awfully convenient way to end a conversation? ^^;;;;;;;; *sweatdrops* (there was more to the debate but I don't remember it all)
To believe is a wonderful thing - especially if it allows you to cast facts aside just like that.

Missionaries always annoy the crap out of me. Especially in poor countries. Dangling food over the heads of starving africans saying "Who's your God? C'mon, who's your God now?!"

@ kentaru : Why don't you ask a muslim ? Maybe you'll find the whole truth about Islam & what you should in and what you shouldn't believe in . Many Questions in your mind I know but you have to know more . The more muslims you ask , the better you will feel . You'll understand what I said later . And if you wanna know about articles of faith , please go to this website : www.islam.com/artialsfaith.htm

I voted for 'Don't know', because I actually don't know that...
But I'm much more of a person that doesn't believe God. My theory: if there was God, he wouldn't let good people die and bad people live.
Because of the lack of knowledge of the world above, I can't answer the question, therefor I don't know.

Ahhh.... that's what I was waiting for a long time... Okay why do good people die and bad people live longer ? that's not the QUESTION you should ask . The Question is " why do people die ? " . People die because it's the last day of there life , to see what good things they did , what bad things they did , what they said bad and good . The website you see above will explain everything you want to know . ( www.islam.com )

Techdude: While I find every religion interesting, I don't see how what I wrote relates to precisely Islam of all religions. You aren't trying to convert me, are you? If not - good, then I assume that the links you referred to perfectly reflect your POV. ^_^
Helenbutterfly: Thought about the same thing too: "Why does God let bad things happen?" I figured that either God was bad or he didn't exist. However lately I have realized that if he interfered then we won't have a little thing called 'free will'. Also, won't it be boring to live forever? It's like wanting all the chocolate in the world, in the end it looses its flavor. Justice has nothing to do with death - it is natural and the only thing we know for sure all of us will go through. Man *cannot* cope with that, so it invents reincarnation, Hell, Heaven ect. ... for me, to accept that there is 'nothing' (Hey, I might be wrong - heck: I *want* to be proven wrong) is really to have come a long way.

Like I said before - I don't know because I don't know what's right or wrong.... Sure, I see your point, but who knows - is it like that or not? That's why I don't know.

Many Questions in your mind I know but you have to know more . The more muslims you ask , the better you will feel . You'll understand what I said later . You missed the point. You really completely did. \However lately I have realized that if he interfered then we won't have a little thing called 'free will'. If God is non-interventional, then praying is pointless, no? ofcourse i do believe in god....if there iz no GOD so who creat us.... Ignorance of biology is no excuse for theism. The idea of heaven and hell exists for two reasons: - People dont want to believe death is the end. - People want to believe there is an ultimate justice in the world, whether now or later, so even if bad things happen to good peole, its not without justice in the end. No justice means no order and nothing to cling to in life. Personally, I dont suffer from either affliction. It really does make life easier. Though there is always the risk of loss of social morality. Luckily, I'm not so simple minded that my desire to do good is fueled by a fear of godly revenge. I do good for its own sake. If religion is needed to keep people good, then keep it. Unfortunately, as much good as it does, it inspires just as much hate.

Mac: I have to agree with you in everything but one point. Should there not be a God or a supreme being it is still proved (feel free to correct me but I believe to have read that some research was conducted on this subject) that some people can heal themselves by praying - as some people can make themselves sick if they feel very bad/depressed/not loved for some reason. It would not surprise me that much if the body’s immune system and the mind are connected somehow. Praying/meditation/whatever, I would say, is a tool to gain full control your body.

Kentaru:An interesting point, but well timed. A newly published study showed that prayer had no statistically significant (meaning some people but not many at all) affect on cardiac victims. But there has been other studies saying that mental attitude does affect your health. The general conclusion isnt that positive thoughts make you better, but that negative thoughts hurt. If your problem isnt due to psychological causes, prayer isnt going to do much good.
KID: How so? Surely anything of importance is worth being discussed.
