I haven't gone through it much, but what I did notice or thought up of on my first reading:
-One of the suspects mentioned bringing over a chess game to the victims. A chess board is made up of black and white squares and pieces. This seems to reflect the black and white chairs, but I can't see any direct connection as of yet
-The reason why the victim didn't grab the door handle was probably because the murderer was outside the door and said something like "I know you killed your wife." Written on the wall was evidence or a message, such as admitting guilt, with the victim's name signed at the bottom. The victim saw the spray-paint and immediately tried to cover it up. Well, painting in an enclosed room is poisonous. When the victim was dying, he probably threw objects out the window, shattering the glass, trying to dilute the air.
So far, all I could think of.

yes..working with paints in an enclosed area can be hazardous to your health (does water based count? er nvm), that could be one reason why he broke the window (to have open air in the room)
another reason that I came up with is that the victim wanted to call out for help & threw out the painting tools as an SOS in hopes that someone would notice that something is wrong which worked but a bit late.
elements to consider
1. the victim may have thought that the culprit may return after he died, so he decided to encrypt his dieing message instead of just writing it down.
2. Koumei &/or his assistant a suspect too? -he was knocked unconscious from behind, Koumei is out.
3. true, the red paint maybe have been used as to cover-up an evidence or a message, but why did he write his name in blood? for a clue using luminol? or he just really just run out of paint?
4. the victim may also not seen his killer at all? (not too sure about this)
So what do you think?
File 684
So the suspects have been narrowed down to three, None of them have a valid alibi between the time the 2nd victim was murdered.
-the musician was found strangled, and was set-up to replicate the the 1st crime scene, except the detail of the 2 chairs.
-The details of the first crime scene was never made public.
-The 2nd victim seem to have financial troubles, & was trying to get loan to travel in overseas.
Find anything suspicious on their statements? So who could it be? The actor, the fashion or CG designer?

None of them have an alibi. B4 file 684, i found the musician's behavior suspicious, so i thought it was a major possibility that he did it. but again, i am proved wrong.

Another small theory of mixing colors. Since the victim was an illustrator, he might've meant that the red paint and white wall would make Pink, Takuto Momose. But that doesn't perfectly explain the colored chairs. It could be that you need to mix the red paint with the white chair to make pink, but that would mean the white wall mixed with the black chair would make Grey, and no one has that name.
Just a quick theory input.

I believe I know the answer, so don't read if you don't want any (possible) spoilers. The idea is still vague, so if you see a flaw, please point it out.
The murderer is the actor Midorikawa Naoki. I'm still not 100% why Naoki Shirou was involved. He probably went to the house a half-yea r before and discovered something about Aoi's painting that proved Shuusaku killed her. He told Midorikawa, who also loved her, and he planned revenge. Shirou knew he was the killer and paniced. Midorikawa killed him to keep his mouth shut.
The reason for this accusation is because of the red wall and the colored chairs. I was right about the white and black chairs representing chess, and I originally thought that meant the CG designer was the culprit. Mixing the colors of the red wall and white chair (making pink) seemed to confirm this, but mixing the white wall and black chair made no sense.
The method to the solution is After-image. If you stare at a color long enough, the cells in your retina will respond to the color less. The victim was sitting in the white chair, implying to sit there first (in chess, white moves first, then black), meaning to stare at the red wall first. After half a minute, sit in the black seat and stare at the white wall. What happens?
You'll start seeing Green, red's contemporary color. This explains how Koumei was able to solve it. He was sitting at the white chair, staring at the wall, and when he turned away, the solution appeared before his eyes.
Also, empty fort strategy is the tactic to make someone believe a room (or fort) is filled with traps. They're going to prove who the killer is by setting up the room to make it look like it has a trap. The person who wants to back away and retreat is the killer.

Good job, I think you got this one in the bag & since they lack evidence they're going to set-up an entrapment for him.
The musician may have found/figured out what the culprit did and blackmailed him for money, did you notice that they both have Naoki in their names?

Then you must be confused (or I). Naoki Shirou, the musician, walked in on the murder when he wanted to borrow money. The victim wrote Naoki was the murderer (meaning Naoki Midorikawa) but Shirou thought he was pointing at himself. I was right before, Naoki Midorikawa is the killer.

As for mystery of Files 687-689, the solution is pretty simple. The answer is a play on a similar (maybe several) crimes in this series.
