If you're in the Los Angeles area, try going to some of these stores. They should sell them for $6 something after tax.
Kinokuniya Bookstore (note: at Anime Expo, they sold manga for $5.50 each) 3030 Harbor Bl #G3 Costa Mesa, CA 92626 714-662-2319
Asahiya Bookstore Torrance (note: inside Mitsuwa Marketplace, sells Shonen Sundays on Wednesday) 21515 Western Av #104 Torrance, CA 90501 310-787-0700
Asahiya Bookstore Express (note: selection might not be so great, but they do carry newly published stuff, sells Shonen Sundays on Thursdays) 2130 Sawtelle Bl #207A Los Angeles, CA 90025 310-575-3303
Kinokuniya Bookstore (note: very huge selection of Japanese and translated manga, once shopping here go eat at Orochon Ramen on the 3rd floor. Best ramen in Los Angeles area) 123 Astronaut Ellison S Onizuka St #205 Los Angeles, CA 90012 213-687-4480
There are also used bookstores you can visit in Los Angeles area. These stores usually have a large selection of older manga books. I usually buy as many used manga here and purchase the rest new. You save a lot of money this way. One book is about $1-$2, most are in good to like new condition.
Bookoff 1610 W Redondo Beach Bl #E8 Gardena, CA 90247 310-532-5010
Bookoff 2955 Harbor Bl Costa Mesa, CA 92626 714-556-1521
Bookmart (?? Not sure of the name even though I go to this one often.) Inside Mitsuwa Marketplace, West Los Angeles Store Corner of Centinela and Venice, there's a Washington Mutual Bank in the same plaza.
I know of a few more, but these stores should yied something. ^_^ Good luck!

Hey, and for those who want to buy some in Germany: Just take a trip to Duesseldorf (well, where else when you consider japanese culture ;-) ) On the Immermannstr. just near the train station (HbF) you'll find two japanese bookstores at least, that offer japanese Conan manga for 8 or 8.20 € !!!
