The publisher of all printed Conan materials in China, Changchun Publishing House (Changchun), sued Shandong Electronic Music Publishers, Inc. (Shandong) and Shanghai Xianjian Culture and Communication Inc. (Xianjian) over bootleg Gosho Aoyama Complete Color Works 1994-2002. Changchun's brief stated that they have been licensed by Shogakukan to release the Chinese version of the above book in March 2005, but Shandong published, and Xianjian sold, three books of various names that carry material similarity to Gosho Aoyama Complete Color Works 1994-2002 at one-third the price. Changchun asked for an injenction for the publishing of the books and a compensation of 210,000 yuan (US$26,923). On the People's Court of Shanghai Pudong New District, Changchun accused both parties failed to observed Changchun's cease and desist letter by Shangdong's continuation of publishing such books and Xianjian's act of sale of those books. Shandong defended that the book is a compliment of the music CD that Shandong sold and has been noted on the cover of the book. The CD itself has been duly certified by the provincial propaganda authorities and should be assumed non-violating, and according to relevant law, handbooks can be sold with optical discs. Xianjian defended that they are merely resellers and has no right to inspect all materials they sell. Changchun further accused that the disc was non-functional; the defendents were selling illegal books under the guise of a legal disc. The case continues.
