So I'm a 'new' member to this forum. First impression - Cool I can make some new friends with DC fans. So I go on to the subforums and see quite interesting topics. HOWEVER, the current page is 27. WOW. Now there's two things to consider - 1. I can read the first post to see what the topic really is about 2. I can read pg 27 to see what it has 'evolved' into.
The first option I do all the time, but there's a slight problem - there's a lot of information discussed between the 1st page and the 27th page. The 2nd option tells me what the current discussion topic (more specifically)
My Problem Do I just comment on whatever is being discussed on the 27th page? Or do I read all the pages to really understand what's going on, see as the 1st post doesn't give you too much information. My problem is do I just post about the current topic or do I have to look over ALL the pages? (Cuz otherwise, I sound like an idiot)
My suggestions: Reduce the page limit dramatically (to like 10) so reader can only read a few pages to get the main idea. I realize more mods and threads will be needed but for me, it's really discouraging seeing all those pages (cuz I ddin't start being active at the start of the thread)

I understand when you miss a bunch or haven't been following the thread discussion and there's a bunch of pages there. but you have to try looking or skiming through the whole page. but I don't think it's necessary to reduce the page numbers just so that it's easier to read. we don't really have a page limit for other any threads except the memebers online thread in the non-conan board (i think)

LOL OK i just clicked on chu's acc and I was like hey cool *follows chu to newest post* and LO AND BEHOLD I find England (someone I know in real life xD)
And yeah... it gets worse when it's on something like page 180... So basically just read the last ~3 pages and you get a general idea of what's happening.

You sound like your a very lazy reader. You don't have to read every post in a thread to get the idea of what the thread is about. Just read the important ones and make sure what you are going to post hasn't already been posted.
A 10 page limit? Come on! Do you know how many threads we'd have floating around if we had a 10 page limit? That is definitely out of the question not going to happen. Even though I don't make that decision I just know that's what Meitantei Lucy will say.
@chu: I believe the 200 page limit is for all threads that reach it.

Yea the page limit is 200 according to the FAQS or something. Yea I guess 10 pages isn't enough, on my other forum, threads never even go that high. I'm not too familiar with this forum so I'm apologize for any bad comments. My main comment is that the large amount of threads is naturally discouraging me from staying on this forum. maybe I'll get used to that later =O How would i know it hasn't been posted? And btw how do I know which posts are the most important (besides the 1st page and the last few pages)? I actually read quite a bit compared to most people =O I'm reading Anne Frank right now for leisure.

You'll just have to get use to there being lots of threads. When you have a forum that's been around for about three years you'll get tons of threads.
As to how to tell if what you were going to talk about hasn't been posted you can always skim around the board or take a chance and post it. Though I should add that if you do the later make sure to put in your post that your not sure if it hasn't been posted yet. Us mods should be easier on you then.
About telling which posts are the important ones just skim though the thread. You don't have to read every post and most of the time you can tell the important posts from the unimportant ones by how long the post is. That's not always the case. You can also tell by who posted it. As you get use to posting around here you'll find that there are some people here that only post good discussions in their posts.

If not , go to other thread.
