The Shadows Over A Cliff
(Prelude)
(Prelude)
The room was dark and cold, being conditioned a bit under comfort. The only hope for freedom from the shadows cast across the room was the flash of a camera and a very dull light source. Blue latex gloves held a piece of simple chewing gun under a zoom-lens camera, turning it before it went back up. A few more pictures were taken in this dark room before finally the man in a white lab coat backed away. He took a small device from one of his large pockets, pressing one of the few buttons on it as light flooded the room.
His icy cold expression went to his lap top as the pictures began processing, checking any and all databases for signs of the finger prints. Every living person in Tokyo on that day was being searching through, the fingerprint on the photographs being compared to the records.
The door opened in the lab, footsteps slowly echoing through the room as a man in black, smelling sweet of cigarettes, aproached the scientist. "It's been a day now." The man in black said, shoving his left hand in his pocket.
"The fingerprints are being processed. I will have a response from the search within the hour." The scientist responded.
The man in blacks eyes narrowed a bit coldly as he looked to the screen as it flipped through the images of people. He took a long moment to think before looking back to the scientist. "Check and see if the fingerprints belong to anyone in the Mouri household first."
"The Mouri household...?" The scientist blinked, but did not hesitate too much. He turned to his lap top and stopped the search before searching the last name 'Mouri'. The computer searched through the whole living Mouri family within a second before coming up with nothing. "No luck."
The man in black took out a cigarette and sighed before placing it between his lips. "Tell me when you finish then." His mind was riddled with thoughts now as he left the room. If it was not the Mouri's, then who could have down such a thing? It could not have been those kids... those... kids... He looked back to the computer as he reached the door, watching as faces flipped across the screen. With a scoff, he turned away from the fact. It was not possible for a child to do be that intelligent. Throwing the thought away, the golden haired man with a black hat flipped open a zippo lighter, pressed the flame to the end of the cigarette, and left the room.

The bell of the Grade School run loud as children left their classrooms and flooded outside. The school day was over for the weekend.
A few students stayed behind in a small classroom. Three of them, a pudgy taller boy by the man of Genta, a skinner paler boy by the name of Mitsuhiko, and the shortest of the three, a girl with short hair in a dress.
"So what are you guys going to do over vacation?" Ayumi asked with a small grin, her eyes soon trailing to Conan.
"My mom is taking be to see a movie tomorrow!" Mitsuhiko grinned, holding the straps of his backpack out a bit. "We're going to go see the opening of the new Masked Yaiba movie!"
"Ah! No way!" Genta and Ayumi chimed together. "I'm so jealous of you, Mitsuhiko..." Ayumi finished.
"What I would do to get some theater food! Popcorn and candy...!" Genta grinned, patting his belly happily.
"I heard they're adding more nutritious items to the theater selection..." Haibara added in a dull monotone. Genta blinked and looked to her. "Neh? Like what?"
"Carrots and celery..." Ayumi said before grinning as she watched Genta's expression change. "Ah, no! My mom will have me eat those instead of candy!"
"It would be better for you." Conan said with an exasperated expression. Haibara added in, "Eating candy and unhealthy snack food all of the time will end up giving you a stomach ache and rotting your teeth out."
Genta made a strange expression to Haibara at what she said, then chuckled and reached a hand behind his head nervously. "I-Is that so?"
As Conan finished packing his books in his bag, he got up and slung it over his shoulders comfortably. "We had better be heading off."
The detective boys agreed before heading out of the classroom and down the winding school halls. "Ah! What is everyone else doing over the weekend?" Mitsuhiko asked.
"My mommy is taking me to the mall today to go shopping! She's getting me a new sun dress before we go on vacation!" Genta and Mitsuhiko looked to Ayumi surprised. "Vacation? Where?"
"We're going to Osaka for a few days! She was going because of a business trip, but since I have the whole week off, we're going to tour there for a few days!"
"Wonderful!" Mitsuhiko chimed with a grin! "I had forgotten we had vacation in a week!" Genta looked to Mitsuhiko with a look of dumbfound, "How could you forget? We have a whole week off!"
"Eh-heh... well..." Mitsuhiko shrunk a bit nervously before looking up to Ayumi whom was giggling at the two. They both smiled at Ayumi, watching her a bit before looking at each other and giving a nervous chuckle.
Conan barely paid any attention to the children in front of him and Haibara. He sighed softly, closing his eyes for a moment. Today dragged on far too long. Class always lasted so very long... he knew all of the subjects they taught by heart; basic math, geography, Japanese...
"Conan-kun?" Ayumi looked back at her friend with a curious expression. "You're falling behind! Common!" Conan perked up to look at Ayumi, then let out a nervous chuckle. He let out an obedient 'Ah.' before catching up to the group. Their conversation had quickly spurred from vacation to simple murder cases that had been released in the newspaper.
"Speaking of news, I heard that some little kid claimed her had been shrunk!" Mitsuhiko brought up, putting a finger to his chin. Both Ai's and Conan's attention was caught. Conan had yet to see the newspaper that the hopeless detective Mouri enjoyed hording every morning. "Sh-shrunk...?"
"Yeah! He said he was a big shot owner of a company and that he had been forced to take some weird drug. When he woke up, he was just a little kid!" At this bit of information, both Conan and Ai halted and looked to each other with worried expressions.
"Eh...? Conan-kun? Ai-chan? What's wrong?" Ayumi asked, approaching the two. Conan ignored them as he walked closer to Haibara whom was shaking in fear. Conan felt the fear as well, the icy cold feeling as if a metal vice was closing in on him; as if he were at the very edge of a cliff, about to leap and greet the pointy rocks below. Shivers ran up his spine as he suddenly grabbed for his cell phone and typed in Jodie's number. "Haibara has been feeling sick lately. We're going to take a short cut from here so she can rest." Conan said before taking Haibara's hand and near dragging her into the shadows of an alley way.
Ayumi blinked, surprised at the sudden happenings before looking to Genta and Mitsuhiko. "I hope Haibara will be okay..." the two boys nodded. The group hesitated, then began heading off home.
Conan stopped at a nearby news stand with Haibara. He sighed, looking to her shaken up form. "It should be alright... it is only a claim right now, there are no solid facts."
"That's enough to get them to investigate it!" Haibara said, not daring to said any details in public. She could feel her self falling apart, a chimerical sweat smell filling her senses. Her gun wounds from that night on top of the hotel where Gin and Vodka faced off with her throbbing suddenly. It felt so real...
Conan felt fear as well, but not for just him. He hesitated, then took his glasses off, handing them to Haibara. He let her wear them as he searched the newspaper for sign of this article. There... there is was... "Hiroshi Mizashi, inherited owner of a string of banks had been reported missing yesterday. In the same day, a young grade scholar resembling Hiroshi went to the police and confessed having made deals with a gang of men in black. He said that when he finally could not take it any more, he decided to quit. The organization knocked him out, and as he was catching his last glimpse pf them, they forced him to take a poison. When he woke, he found his clothes to be much to big, and that he had indeed shrunken to the size of a Grade Scholar." Conan stopped the article there as he placed the newspaper back in the stack.
"W-we're dead... that was enough to convince them... to lead them to the truth..." Haibara said before chuckling. "I-... I'm sure if you offer me over, they will let you free though, Kudo."
Conan looked to Haibara before sighing and lowering his head. the familiar hand gesture to his chin came into play as the sunlight hit his glasses, covering sight of his eyes. "Idiot. I have told you before. I am not going to do that."
"Then what!?" Haibara panicked before placing her hands over her mouth to quiet her. A few people looked to the children curiously after the girl screamed, but after a moments silence between the two, the other occupants of the area shrugged off their presence.
"Then... we make a plan to fight before they find us." Conan said smoothly before taking out his cellphone. "I'll call a few people while we make our way to the Professor's." He gave Haibara a serious look as she returned her frightened one.
As the two headed off, Conan brought the cell phone to his ear.
"Hello?"
"Jodie. We have a problem."
