I'm going to make this short and sweet ( probably not >_> ), and hopefully after this is posted, there will be no more further questions about it.
A thread known as the 'Song Project' thread seemed to have been deleted some 2-3 weeks ago. No one knows exactly how it happened, or who did it, if it was even a who. In past experiences with Proboards, many have come to a conclusion that there was a bug/glitch/some other issue that caused the thread to be deleted on its own. This may very well be possible. Another possible explanation is a staff member deleted it on accident. Or a Proboards official saw links to illegal filesharing of music titles and decided to take it down, without deleting the forum. For those unfamiliar with the Song Project thread, it was a thread where music files could be distributed at request.
I could go on. There could be at least 20 excuses as to why It's gone, but there's really no excuse as for why it was here in the first place. I can say we knew and just didn't give a care; and I can say we just decided to keep music downloads and not movies. We're an unpredictable bunch. But however you look at it, downloading music is illegal and is still considered in the same package with the other download files. By keeping it around, we contradicted our own rules and we're deeply sorry for this. By doing this we have not only gave you the wrong impression, but have also, more than likely, gave you the idea that downloading those music files was right and movies/episodes/youtube links were wrong.
Prior to what I just said, there will NOT be another Song Project thread and we will NOT have music downloads here anymore. The reason for me saying this is, if maybe - just maybe a Proboards official DID delete the thread without warning. If they saw us go back to our old ways, they would more than likely send this forum to its grave. Not only that, but, contradicting our rules was bad enough. Making the same mistake over is never a good thing. If you were distributing the music here too, you are just at fault as we are. We are at fault for saying it was okay, but by doing it and knowing you were doing it; you placed it on yourself as well.
Conan itself isn't just about music. If you're angry/upset/frustrated that we are no longer allowing music to be distributed here, go look for it elsewhere. It's out there. It is the internet afterall. But while you are here, try to join in on some of the conversations elsewhere, or contribute things to other boards. We'd like to keep our members that contributed things, regardless of what they did contribute.
If you managed to read this far, here; have a cookie from the staff. We're terribly sorry for any inconvience this has caused. We're learning from our mistakes, we hope you will as well. If you wish to keep making mistakes and distribute music, please do it elsewhere. Thank you.
