I was thinking, lately as I watched, 5, 8, 9 I got some strange ideas. In Countdown to Heaven we know the Org. planted bombs in a building where a party was going on. In Die Hard we know that terrorists planted bombs in a building where a party was going on. In Countdown to Heaven, Ran and Conan jump out of the building with the fire hose to get to a lower level, tying it around Ran's waist then around Conan. In Die Hard, Bruce Willis jumps out of the building with a fire hose around his waist to get to a lower floor. Both are at Skyscrapers. In general Conan is against the Org. While Bruce Willis is against the terrorists both on their own. (Conan has Ai but IMO; I do not think Ai is out to help a lot...) There are other similarities I wont mention xD --- Magician of the Silver Sky vs. Airplane!. In Magician of the Silver Sky both the pilots get sick and it leaves Conan and ((That other guy, the "actor")) to land the plane. In Airplane!, both the pilots get sick and it leaves Robert Hays to land the plane. In Magician of the Silver Sky they struggle through weather and several things to land the plane, eventually landing it in a crash. In Airplane!, Robert Hays struggles to get the plane down and eventually lands it. There are other similarities I wont mention... --- Stradagey Above the Depths vs Titanic. If you have not found similarities yet... You have two nice boats that sink. --- Use your imagination to the rest...-wrist hurts too much typing- Discuss similarities you found in Movies vs Conan Movies. --- I have a feeling Conan 11 is going to have some POTC moments. --- ALSO MODS - DON'T BE RUDE IF THERE WAS A TOPIC LIKE THIS BEFORE Thanks.

Your wrist hurts from all that typing? Ooh. Are you new to typing? Haven't got used to it? I have to type 400 words almost non-stop to start getting sore But yeah, you're right about the copy but 99.7% of other parts are not really copied. Plus, to add to the Magician of the Silver Sky, the last bit where the police cars light's helps the landing, in one of the Die Hard movies, they use fire instead that leaked from the aeroplane's tank's fuel that made it visible for another plane to land.

I just feel the general idea is copied. Plane needs to be landed by people on plane because pilots are sick, boat sinks, terroists blow up building. I have carpal tunnel in my wrist because I do type A LOT xD So I cannot type a lot anymore.

Of course it could be copied, I mean Gosho can't think of something new evertime.

I don't think it is copied from other movies. Most of the things you mentioned are very common in action movies. I mean, what can be more exciting to watch than to see buildings collapse? No movie can claim that bombing a skyscraper was their original idea and every movie ever made after that one is a copy of it, simply because these are just too obvious things. The same concept applies to when plains crash and ships sink.

i'm in college and i'm a film major. regarding films, we have what we call iconography, which are recurring symbolic images carrying meanings, etc. in given films of a type, common identities are shared and these are sort of genre conventions so in movies of the same genre, you'd see a lot of repeated images (may be portrayed in one way or the other, of course). they may not be directly "ripped off" but it's just part of some sort of convention. don't get me wrong - i'm not justifying the lack of originality or whatever, but i'm just saying that there must be a kazillion jillion movies out there and it's highly possible that there's a sort of scene that's similar to another... ;D

It's not rip off as so much as movie cliches that work and are pretty fun ^^ I mean it wouldn't be exciting if there wasn't some miracle jump or speed reference. It's all pretty fun ^^

Ideas are made to be developed and somehow stolen or based on. The more stolen it is, the more developement on that idea.

Airplane! actually made fun of some of the cliches in movies. XD So it's ironic you compared the 8th movie to that.
I always did think that the Strategy Above the Depths reminded me of Titanic (and The Poseidon Adventure, actually...is that the name of the movie?), but again, you're bound to find similarities in action movies. It makes things interesting. ^^

i guess you are talking about references to other media texts. There is a term called 'intertextuality' basically it says that a text referring other texts. surely in all media text it would create allusions to other media texts but it also depends on the viewer's reception. Interesting the movies that you were comparing. I have neither watched die hard nor airplane! I watched these DC movies but this never occurred to me. Now I wanna watch the movies you mentioned and watch the DC movies again.
Simply the character Conan as being the '90s Sherlock Holmes',again is a direct reference to Conan Doyle's work. Think about the name symbolism. 'Edogawa' is also a JP detective story writer. I remember looking through the post in the forum, there were mentioning that an episode referring to Agatha Christie's work. sorry for going abit off the topic since u were talking about movies not episodes.
do u think becoz of this, it may be one reason that people from different cultural backgrounds like watching DC?
