This post is intended for people who don't treat CC their usual version of DC. CC version movie 1, surprisingly, kept most things intact, even they still use Caucasian names. For that reason, they use somewhat convoluted plots to legitimize Japanese things in what is supposed to be an Anglophonic country. The Kurogawa murder case in the beginning is kept the JUN message thing intact. People would wonder how can a Caucasian use a Japanese keyboard, so central to the issue is: Kurogawa is a Japanophile, in addition to being a doctor. So he knew so much Japanese to the level that he can think in Japanese (which explains Kogoro's reasoning.). And also explained the name Manami. Manami is a Japanese name, yet this is hard-coded to be the murderer's name. How to conceivibly done in an Anglophone country? Answer: Since "Kurokawa" is such a Japanophile, the murder, in order to go close to him, changed her name to a Japanese one so that he would choose her as his maid. Ingenious? On the other hand, "Moriya" (Leo Joel, palindromic)'s Momotaro riddle is preserved intact; the one blemish is that the writer seemed oblivious about Chinese Zodiacs. Another real-life problem: the movie was in 1997; and now it is 2006. If there were 3 bombings in the city in one day, Ran would not be allowed to enter the cinema.

I suggest you use the word 'American' or 'English' instead of 'Caucasian.' :/ It looks bad, if you know what I mean.

You forgot to mention that Officer Shiratori is now Officer Santos. Speaking of, in my very old list of westernizations I made, Santos fell to Sato.
