I'm sorry, MIst, but I can't really help you... I know Japanese, however, I don't exactly know the structure of it. (I didn't learn it bit by bit, I liked it as a whole). So I have no idea how to explain it.
But, if you want to learn some simple words, then look at some of the posts made. There are many lists of words in Japanese.

i often hear the word 'shite' what does it mean? what about 'shita'? are they the same? when should we use 'no' 'ni' 'wo' 'wa' and 'de' ? hmm... 'shite'?? do you mean '.... shitekudasai'?? well, that's when you ask someone to do something. and 'shita' simply the opposite way, like when you already did some thing. for instance: watashi wa kyou hon wo yomimashita, means i did read books today. 'no' is to express the belonging like 'watashino' means 'mine', 'anatano' means 'yours'. 'ni' is hard to explain... if you want to say, ' go and stand stand there', you need to add 'ni' like this: 'soko ni tattekudasai'. God, i can't explain this. Mina help!! 'wa' simply express 'is', for instance: 'are wa abunaidesu', means ' that is dangerous.' sorry, i just can explain those, hope you can get some of them now ^^;;
