Darn those dubbed names... -_- I don't get it, is it such a big deal to keep the names? I mean it's obvious that the anime is from Japan. Someone tell me how the name "Shinichi" and "Jimmy" are in anyway 'similar'.
And the title, Case Closed? I don't like it at all. It's only US that changed the title. And from what I heard, it was because it might cause legal rights with stupid show called "Conan the Barbarian". I bet DC was created WAY before "Conan the Barbarian"
Sorry, I just hate it when tv people change names ^^;

AGAHAHAHAHAH! lol FUNNY! ad Jimmy and Shinichi both have an "I! MWAHAHAHAHh! and becuase i mainly think that japanese names in english accents would just be plain scary! lol it would be really distorted, becuase people with normal english accents would say it differently, and the point of dubbing is so poeple of other languages can understand If they dubbed it with japanes eaccented poeple, it still wouldn't make total sense to americans!" LOL! so they change it to regular names. Some arent changed, like Kudo, and Mouri - Moore is a slight change, and the kids names arent changed THAT much, Conans anme isn't changed, or Professor Agas'a lol

Well duh, of course they won't change Conan's name. After all, Conan is English name, remember? (taken from Conan Doyle, the writer). True, Japanese names with English accent would sound... funny! It somehow always makes me laugh when I hear people trying to say Japanese name and put accent is wrong play. I always get an urge to correct them. (no offence to anyone)

LOL! but i dun get why in the Anime Conan's name is english... he got it from the book on Prof. Agasa's shelf, right? so why would Prof. Agasa have english books? i dun think he would be able to understand it.. bt everyone DOES seem t have a slight undersatnding of englush in anime! LOL like in Hajime No Ippo, when Ippo was against Ozuma, he managed to say "hello, my name - Ippo" lol and in movie #3, Mouri knows the english alphabet!

Actually, I think Conan/Shinichi knows English very well. After all, his parents live in America. In "Golden Apple" (which takes us back in time before Shinichi became Conan. Shinichi and Ran visited New York with Shinichi's mom. Shinichi understood everything people said in English... it seems that Ran's pretty good at English too.)
And no, it wasn't at Professor Asaga's house that Shinichi came up with the name Edogawa Conan. It was in his house, the Kudo house. They were in library full of mystery/detective books. (and it's not surprsing, concidering Shinichi is high school detective and his dad is famous mystery/detective book writer)

Actually, Kudo fell right in front of his house. He tried to open the gate but failed since we was too short. Professor Agasa made something explode and came out in the street, that's when he saw kid Shinichi. They went into Kudo house to talk there, and also so Shinichi could find clothes that would fit him. (he called the child clothes "dorky old clothes", hehe, its funny)
That's according to manga though, I don't remember the anime episode that well. (it was 8 years ago ^^; )

Yeah, that's when anime was first aired in Japan, but I think I knew the series before that, as manga. But my memory isn't clear. Since I can't even remember that, there is no way I remembered the channel

Indeed, they start learning English in 7th grade, the first year of junior high school. But from what I heard (and saw the textbooks), it doesn't seem to be very well taught ^^; I'll always remember how one book wrote down the way to say "good morning". I couldn't stop laughing because it sounded soo funny. I'll try to replicate the sound as much as I can.
guudo moruningu
I think it sounds funnier if you actually read it in Japanese.
