i really dont like the dub names... they just dont fit... harley hartwell sounds quite stupid. all the names sound wrong :\ i agree with the expressions.. and the changed dialogue. they didnt have to change THAT did they? even when its not a japanese proverb, they still change it...
but yeah, as with tiger81, people are used to the first version they see and cant change unless they find out about the original or something soon after. if not then they stick with the language they understand, which i think is exactly why tiger said that he thinks the english VAs do a better job...

I think ALL of the dubbed names are worser than the original, everyone do...! ^^ But there is expecially TWO names thats just HORRIBLE!!! Im sorry if anyone here is named Jimmy, but..... To go from Shinichi to Jimmy just shows me that its GOTTA be something missing between their ears.... But the WORST ALL TIME DUBB NAME IS.......:
HARTWELL??!?!??!??!?!?!??!! Harley is Okey, but when Heiji calls Conan "Kudo", does Conan call Heiji "HARTWELL?!??!" O.O Because he should name him by his last name.... Thats better! But not if he's named Hartwell........ =.=

But not if he's named Hartwell........ =.= Hattori-kun is better Yeah you're right! But I think the worst is Kogorou becomes Richard Moore... How could Kogorou sound like Richard? ? CC series won't influence the American Kids in Japanese culture.... I think that's so..... Worse you think? I think IT"S THE WORST!!!! Hmmm.... Shin'ichi = Jimmy.... besides the settings take in Japan... How could the put American's name in Japanese people? Do you think Holmes goes Homura in Japan? No! they put the original name..... OR somethink like Rambo becomes Rando or Ranpo? No! Why they don't use the original names is They don't want take Japanese culture...I think...... That's not fair.... Hmmm but could they dub the 7th Movie? One of DC movie which contain full Ancient Japanese culture? Or some DC episodes explaination using Kanji........ I think The Last Samurai movie also not fair since the saviour was the foreign person... not a Japanese........ Sorry for those American people here... I'm not mean to disturb you all..... ;D

I'll agree that some of the dubbed names are bad i.e Anita, Harley Hatweel, and Wilder. Some, however, I feel are better than the originals like Richard, Booker, and Rachel. Sometimes I don't get everyones grips and vehement hate over the dubs, but everyone's entitiled to their own opinion.

I agree with every line you typed They just don’t fit…and sound stupid But not only English dub audience suffer from this I think all anim and movies became worse when they are dubbed and translated If I was the producer I would do something about that For example "the Arabic version is also bad" even when the characters had their names they are pronounced wrongly in purpose (they think young audience cant recognize it) the names in Arabic is really weird Sinichi is Sinshi Sonoko is Soko Haibara is Heebara Kogoru is Togo The other names is OK Conan voice is the same But Sinichie voice really suck And the awful opening and ending theme had never changed So don’t feel so bad You are not alone

O____o Your right we can pronounce their original names. However, it is difficult to do so. Futhermore, they change the names not for pronuciation yet the ability to be reconized. No offense, but some of the regular names(while unique here and good names over in japan) sound bad. Ran (even though it sounds different from ran) is a past tense verb here and by having a character named that would not fit. I think when they started to dub DC they relized how malleable the core of the show was. While many other cartoons/anime are like a series, the core of DC(the mystery) is episodic. They relized they can bend the show away from its regular form. It was not mandetory for it to be in japan(even thought this does lead to trouble when the series mentions something of japanese culture). Final note I like the names Katie and Kazuha equally.

Although name changes is not as bad, as a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. If you watch the English Dubbed Episode with Japanese translation subtitles on, see the difference, it's pretty big.

I, personally, don't like it when they change an Anime into a Cartoon specialy when it's in English (I'm not offending) Americans always change the name and I don't like the way they pronounce the japanese name…

i really...REALLY dont like the english version...the name Jimmy makes me shake with anger!!!lol...the other names are just as annoying...not only that...but why watch it dubbed when they havent even gotten to the 100s yet in the episodes!?u have all those subbed episodes waiting to be watched...who gives a crap about the English version!!!*is fuming*gone is the adorable names, the cute voices, the beautiful opening and ending songs, the very TITLE itself!!!!!sigh..watch me rant away...ive seen all the English episodes...and really dont care for them...Shinichi...that name is just sooo cute and i love it!!!why keep Conan if they are gonna change the title and Shinichi's name anyway!?grrrrrrrrrr....no love put into the episodes at all!!the voices arent bad...but they just dont have that...well OOMPH that makes Detective Conan great...the japanese can pull off the emotions so well it makes me feel them as i watch...i get such a distant feeling from the English version...ugh...okay ill stop now...but i would like to continue chatting with others if they want too!! My point is that what works for Detective Conan outside the states does not really work for the American audience. The original names and the original songs (some i don't even know they can use the japanese as they may be copyrighted) are not for this audience. IMO, I feel the american VA's do a better voice job than the japanese VA's. I think they have a more real feel to them. However, I can not say the Japense VA's do a lackluster job as I do not know the language. Lastly, I am glad they made an english version. well i feel that the japanese did a better job on the voicing....but i can understand how u would be glad an English version was made...no more having to pay attention to the screen so hard to read the subtitles and scanning form top to bottom quickly to make sure u got the whole scene...im very used to that so its no problem to me...that and i know some japanese so its easy to pick up mistakes and figure out small things...yet i wish that the english version woulkd have done a better job of putting out the original content of DC instead of wasting money changing it to their little likings...i dont feel that the songs would be copyright...if they have rights to show the anime in America then they have rights to everything that goes with the anime...i think that DC outside the states works very well for the fan and that those that only know the American version are missing most of fun...
