Whoa... so much kanji!
Anyway, I thought I'd help a bit with the typing Japanese part since people seem to have trouble with it. I can't only give PC instructions, so, sorry Mac users!
Okay, follow the below instructions (i'm using my windows XP home edition as guide):
Start ---> control panel --> Date, time, language, and regional options ---> Add other languages ---> Language (it's a tab) ---> Details (a button) ---> Add (another button) ---> finally, choose japanese under the input language scroll options.
You should probably also mess around with the 'code page conversion tables' options under the "Advanced" tab and check the little boxes for Japanese. After you've done that, there should be a language bar floating around your desktop that'll allow you to change back and forth between typing Japanese and English. If not, then you can make it appear by selecting the "language bar" button and checking the necessary boxes.
With the language bar, you can type hiragana by selecting the option that is the hiragan for "a", and whatever you type can be converted to its kanji equivalent (if there is one), by pressing the space button and choosing the correct kanji, then enter to stabilize it. So you really need a somewhat firm grasp of which kanji to use. So keep attending this awesome class and be Japanalized, heh.

What I am still having a problem with, even with all boxes checked for Japanese in the Advanced tab, is seeing the Kanji on this forum. My IE7 Web Browser shows most if not all kanji on other sites and my Word program displays kanji no problem. But, I am having terrible luck seeing any kanji on this board. Anymore advice anyone? Thanks! (Is there a setting on the board itself I need to check?)

I don't know just try both) > encoding > Japanese (Shift-JIS) I think that's right.
